Oatmeal ain’t just for breakfast!

“Oh nymmy, oatmeal! Lookit Frankie!” exclaimed Sally the skink to Frankie, the fringed lizard.
“Did you know oatmeal's NOT just for eating?” asked Frankie, getting ready to do some ‘splaining to Sally.
“Go on….I'm listening.” said Sally, intrigued. Well, as much as a skink can be intrigued.
“It's great for itchy or rough skin. I read a paper about the mechanism of action and clinical benefits of colloidal oatmeal for dermatologic practice. It was written by Cerio R1, Dohil M, Jeanine D, Magina S, Mahé E, Stratigos AJ. These scientists work in the Department of Dermatology, Barts & The London NHS Trust, Royal London Hospital, London, UK. They say that colloidal oatmeal has a long history of beneficial use in dermatology. It is a natural product that has an excellent safety record and has demonstrated efficacy for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, drug-induced rash and other conditions. In recent years, in vitro and in vivo studies have begun to elucidate the multiple mechanisms of action of naturally derived colloidal oatmeal. Evidence now describes its molecular mechanisms of anti-inflammatory and antihistaminic activity. The avenanthramides, a recently described component of whole oat grain, are responsible for many of these effects. Studies have demonstrated that avenanthramides can inhibit the activity of nuclear factor kappaB and the release of proinflammatory cytokines and histamine, well known key mechanisms in the pathophysiology of inflammatory dermatoses. Topical formulations of natural colloidal oatmeal should be considered an important component of therapy for atopic dermatitis and other conditions and may allow for reduced use of corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors. What do you think of THAT Sally? Sally?”
“Zzzzzzzz, nyow, nyow, nyow, zzzzzzz” said Sally, having fallen asleep by Frankie's lulling voice.
Now YOU can get the benefits of colloidal oatmeal in a shampoo & body bar, made right here in Comox!! There is NO scent added to these, since an irritated scalp or skin is much more likely to be bothered by essential oils and/or fragrance oils.
A mesh bag allows the bar to dry nicely between uses. You don't want it to get mushy sitting in water, right? The mesh is a soft fabric, it will not damage the cuticles of your hair. If your skin is really inflamed, you might want to take the bar OUT of the bag to use it. Leave the lather on itchy/irritated areas for awhile to let the avenanthramides in the oatmeal, which you read ALL about, above, do their work before washing it off.
If you have a really well-draining soap dish or such, and you are careful that the bar is OUT of the splash zone of your shower, you don't need the net bag. Just be sure your bar is NOT left sitting in water.
Like anything on the market, this might NOT work for your itchiness, but at the very least, it'll clean your hair and skin nicely.
Here are what some people have reported about THEIR use of these bars on their heads:
“So far I will say of shampoo bars I have tried, yours is my fave. I did find it helpful with itching and I also found my hair to be much softer!” LK, Comox
“Wow! The oatmeal shampoo is the best shampoo I have used, either on my hair or my daughter’s hair. I absolutely love it. Though you’ll have to take my word for it- I forgot to take pix (sorry), my daughter’s cradle cap is 90% gone, the shampoo does wonders for volume and shininess! It also makes my thinning hair look voluminous! Was going to write you about purchasing some. Amazing stuff ❤ I have washed my daughter’s (long) hair thrice. Very impressed with the results!” SG, Courtenay
“Consensus is that it is fantastic. We have been back for a week and it is proving to be fantastic. I have found I still have some thick scalp areas but they seem smaller.” JD, Comox
“We are both using it and I LOVE it. I had a bit of itchy scalp too and that is gone! I can vouch for it as I have used it consistently …. I also think it lathers more than the other shampoo bar…. Oh I asked him (husband) this morning and he said definitely much less itching!” CS, Courtenay
“I love the way it makes me hair feel very clean and soft. Unfortunately it didn't take the itch away. My itchiness was a bit of a bigger issue so the doctor prescribed me some medicated lotion as my scalp is red and painful. I do plan of continuing to use the oatmeal bar and order more in the future.” LPH, Courtenay
